An Apathetic Generation

We couldn’t reach a debt agreement, so we raised the debt ceiling
And we wonder why people are going bankrupt
We watch as social security gets cut more and more
And we wonder why younger people disrespect the elderly
We take prayer out of school and make Christians into a joke
And we wonder why kids are losing all morality
Our television, movies and video games are getting more violent all the time
And we wonder why our children are
We can’t be bothered to get involved at our child’s school because we are too busy
And we wonder why our kids don’t take school seriously
We don’t have time to read to our children
And we wonder why they don’t like books
We see pollution, bullying, and homelessness, but we look away
And we wonder why our children are apathetic.

Maybe we should look in the mirror?

That Weird Kid

Everyone went to school with at least one weird kid. In third grade, the one that stands out for me was the girl who told everyone she was the princess of Saturn. Sadly, her planet was going through an intergalactic war, and she was sent to Earth for her safety. She missed her planet so much, but she was able to stay in touch with her people through the communicator hidden in her Holly Hobby lunchbox. Nobody else could see it though. It only worked for her. Unpacking a Verse: Isaiah 49:23b

Then you will know that I am the Lord ; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.  Isaiah 49:23b I've decided that for this week's blog hop in  Proverb's 31 "A Confident Heart" Study , I will "unpack" Isaiah 49:23b.  See:  Verse Mapping   I considered all the other topics, but since doubt and depression are huge issues for me I didn't feel ready to write about them.  Maybe I will get there...f or now, Isaiah 49:23b.   The first thing I did was personalize... Then  Heather will know that I am the Lord; when Heather hopes in me she will not be disappointed. I need to remind myself that He speaks directly to me through His word.  Next I thought about the word "know".   It doesn't say Heather will speculate or guess or think...it says "know".  That is tough for me.  I want no doubts.  I want to be sure with everything in me that He is Lord and what He says is true.  Theoretically I get it, but I still quest

A Fairy Tale Life...

People always seem to long for a "fairy tale" life...but I was thinking, is that really a good thing? Sure, MOST of them end well...but what did they have to endure to get to that point?  And even with the "happy" endings, was the final result all that great? Cinderella was an emotionally abused orphan. She had to deal with the untimely death of both her parents!  To make matters worse, she was stuck with a horrible stepmother and two nasty pieces of work for stepsisters.  They made her a seriously overworked servant and teased her mercilessly.  I know some kids who aren't crazy about their steps, but come on...most aren't THAT bad... Think about it...they would rather BREAK THE LAW then let her have one night of happiness!  These are not pleasant roommates, people!
